Francisco Antonio Carrasquero López

Justice of the Supreme Court since 2005. He was appointed in 2008 Vice President of the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), and since then has held managerial positions within the court.

He graduated as a lawyer from the University of Zulia in 1969 and also holds a degree in Industrial Relations. Besides his career as a lawyer and judge, Carrasquero is remembered for his role as President of the National Electoral Council (CNE) during the term 2003-2005, a period of difficulty for the then-President Hugo Chávez.

Carrasquero left the CNE pointing out weaknesses in the conditions of workers’ rights. He served as Chancellor of the National Experimental University Rafael Maria Baralt of the state of Zulia for four years (1996-2000) and served as chief judge of the Labour and Transit Court in the State of Zulia. Carrasquero worked as a teacher for more than 30 years in various universities, including his alma mater.
